Overview

Halifax Health is seeking an Air Conditioning Mechanic for the Facility Operations Department.

Summary

This individual maintains and repairs the air conditioning systems, refrigeration, ice makers, freezers, vacuum air and compressor equipment for the hospital.  They will also be expected to maintain appropriate supplies.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Satisfactory completion of a two year trade school or equivalent or a minimum of five years experience in air conditioning, refrigeration and pneumatic air control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams and operation of equipment required.
  • The ability to operate air conditioning, electrical, and mechanical tools to include electrical testing equipment, refrigeration gauges, vacuum pump, hand tools air and velocity meters is required.  
  • Written and verbal communication skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs and maintenance on air conditioning equipment systems to include: central water chillers, air handlers, air filters, pneumatic air conditioning control system
  • Performs periodic testing, evaluation and adjustment of chemicals for the hospital’s central water chiller system.
  • Maintains and repairs other hospital cooling equipment: refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, vacuum and surgical suction equipment, medical air compressors, medical vacuum pump
  • Performs repairs on air-conditioning and refrigeration systems including: electrical and gas welding, silver soldering, pipe fitting

  • Requisitions equipment, supplies and materials, trouble shooting problems.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
