Overview

Halifax Health is seeking a Manager for the Quality Improvement Department.

Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Quality Improvement (QI) the Manager of Quality Improvement will be responsible for the overall coordination and management of the interdisciplinary quality and performance improvement processes supported by both the Quality and Performance Improvement (PI) departments. This responsibility includes efforts at both the departmental and organizational level that are data-driven and aligned with current strategic directives. Under the leadership of the Director of Quality will support the efforts of currently established and future Quality/PI teams. Provides leadership and support throughout Halifax Health to quality and performance improvement initiatives based on an understanding and analysis of results from internal and external data, assessments/evaluations of clinical outcomes and regulatory requirements. Serves as project manager/coordinator for key quality/PI initiatives providing support at both departmental and organizational levels. Provides information to leadership in terms of quality of care and safety as compared to standards of care and recommends actions where opportunities are identified. Assists the Director of Quality Improvement with the daily operations of the department to include oversight of any designated direct reports

 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, Masters preferred.
  • Minimum three years experience as leader in healthcare improvement required, preferably in acute care.
  • Strong facilitation skills and project management experience required.
  • Knowledge and proven demonstration of improvement models including Lean/Six Sigma and DMAIC required.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills with experience in presentation/communication to executive levels.
  • Demonstrated application of data analysis skills including basic statistics and research review required.
  • Working knowledge of Value-based Purchasing Program, Inpatient/Outpatient Quality Reporting Program, Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) Program and Readmission Reduction Program preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills including spreadsheets, PowerPoint and graphs
  • Experience working with electronic medical records
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize, manage and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with other departments and providers

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as clinical expert/resource within quality department.

  • Works in conjunction with leadership to develop, implement and coordinate effective systems to evaluate and improve patient outcomes and quality of care.

  • Provides leadership in areas of quality and performance improvement and supports the mission of Halifax Health by leading improvements linked to the strategic plan.

  • Uses project management and change management tools to help interdisciplinary teams improve quality of care and outcomes

  • Demonstrates effective project management skills, providing project management guidance for organizational PI and Quality initiatives.

  • Conducts analysis of current outcomes and processes to support Quality/PI teams and track progress of annual organizational goals; may include time studies, process observations or other information gathering activities.

  • Leads performance improvement initiatives and teams.

  • Champion of performance/quality improvement and DMAIC approach in developing, implementing and revising QI initiatives.

  • Solution development with stakeholders to support improvement of care delivery and operational inefficiencies using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and tools.

  • Supports data governance efforts.

  • Assists with data mining, analysis, creating and interpreting data displays/reports to support QI/PI projects.

  • Researches nationally standardized QI/PI indicator definitions and benchmarks to help guide project goals and improvement efforts.

  • Assists with monitoring of data accuracy, integrity and efficacy.

  • Supports the evaluation and documentation of potential impact for proposed organizational changes as well as finalized results. 

  • Leads/ supports development and communication of presentations as well as routine status reports to stakeholders, ensuring performance improvement and quality activities are competed in a timely manner, within budget, and in alignment with annual goals. 

  • Committee/Council attendance and participation as required to promote quality improvement initiatives

  • Supports quality driven educational/ training activities that will enhance the understanding and skills of Halifax Health Leadership and Team Members

  • Conducts research and engages in continuing education to advance mastery of data analytics, PI skills and quality improvement initiatives at both state and national levels.
