Overview

Halifax Health is seeking a Cafeteria Aide/Cashier for the Food and Nutritional Services Department.

Summary

This individual operates cash registers in cafeteria for cash and Quick Charge transactions. Responsible for following all cash handling procedures and accountable for over/short, voids, and no sales. Stocks cafeteria with beverage, food, and non-food items and performs general cleaning of area.

 

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must possess basic math skills and the ability to count money and make change.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skill and excellent customer service skills.
  • Previous experience as a cashier is preferred.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizes cashier station, verifies cash bank at beginning of shift.
  • Operates cash register to process cash transactions for cafeteria purchases made by staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Processes non-cash transactions for cafeteria for interdepartmental transfers and charges.
  • Follows all cash handling policies and procedures; completes required reports legibly.
  • Makes coffee, and maintains fountain beverage syrup, and beverage machines.
  • Sets up and refills snack/condiment stand, silverware and plastic ware.
  • Performs general cleaning tasks according to daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
  • Assists Cafeteria Supervisor in training new cashiers.
  • Sets up steam table and serves food to cafeteria customers.
