Halifax Health - Hospice is seeking a Medical Secretary.
The Hospice Medical Secretary performs a variety of departmental tasks and duties for the Admissions Department. Receiving referrals from a wide variety of sources from the community, hospitals and individuals. This position requires skill in planning and organizing to assist clinical team with eligible admissions to the program. Reports directly to Admissions Coordinator.
Answering large volume of calls for the team.
Communicates/obtains pertinent information, maintains the dignity, confidentiality and cultural sensitivity of all individuals of varying socio-economic groups.
Maintains, updates and orders forms and medical supplies as needed.
Data entry and collection, creating reports and gathering other needed information for Admissions Coordinator.
Receives and coordinates referrals from various sources and follows up with appropriate facilities, physicians or patients for any needed documents.
Completes insurance and physician verification.
Gathers and inputs patient information into computer.
Works with Admissions Coordinator and entire Admissions team to facilitate each admission to our Hospice program.
Coordinates contact and appointments with patients/families, facilities and necessary “Face to Face” assessments by APRN or MD.
Maintains contact with patients/families to assess future needs for services.
High standard of customer service and phone etiquette, providing thorough hand off to appropriatemteam members to assist and support patients, families and community.
Other duties as assigned.
