Overview

Halifax Health is seeking an Patient Care Technician II.

Summary

The Patient Care Technician II functions within the areas of nursing and patient areas as assigned. This individual performs phlebotomy, patient transportation, direct para-professional nursing care to Nursing Unit and Emergency Department patients, as well as various registration and clerical duties. This individual is responsible and accountable to an assigned group of newborns, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

 

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Current valid Florida EMT license or certification as CMA or RMA for Medical Assisting.
  • Current certification in BLS.
  • Must be skilled in providing care for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Must complete orientation requirements: general hospital orientation, and unit-specific orientation.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reports to work as scheduled and conforms to working hours. Arrives to work at scheduled starting time.
  • Provides care for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Adheres to HIPAA and EMTALA laws.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and Team Members to establish interventions and goals.
  • Works and communicates well with patients, visitors, physicians and other Team Members.
  • Obtains and documents patient vital signs, as well as assist with placement of oxygen saturation, blood pressure monitoring and cardiac monitoring.
  • Obtains 12-lead ECGs according to best practices and hospital policy.
  • Demonstrates basic ECG interpretation.
  • Performs point-of-care glucose testing according to hospital policy.
  • Assists with resuscitation/CPR and emergency airway procedures, within scope of practice.
  • Assists in care of all patient encounters, including all emergencies, within scope of practice.
  • Transports patients within the hospital in a safe and timely manner.
  • Draws blood samples and prepares them for testing according to hospital policy.
  • Documents procedures performed within scope of skills checklist.
  • Adheres to Halifax Health and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assists with orienting and precepting new Team Members, students and volunteers.
  • Assists with unit responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Maintains certifications and education requirements of the department and Halifax Health.
  • Willingly accepts change of assignments as requested.
  • Masters manual skills/procedures (as outlined in skills checklist).
