Overview

Halifax Health is seeking a Senior Accountant for the Accounting Department.

Summary

The goal of the Senior Accountant is to maintain the integrity of the department and financial status of the organization as a whole by analyzing, recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions to develop and carry out long-term financial goals

Job Qualifications

  • BS or BA in Accounting required, MBA or MACC preferred.
  • Five plus years of experience in accounts payable and general accounting functions preferred. 
  • Ability to handle large volume of diversified work.
  • Excellent financial analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in simple, understandable terms.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining and balancing subsidiary account by verifying, allocating, reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Formulates written policies and procedures, subject to approval by Manager.
  • Prepares analyses and reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts. 
  • Prepares and records monthly journal entries for input to general ledger. 
  • Performs system testing and analysis as necessary to improve efficiency. Meditech, KRONOS or SQL database experience desired.
  • Maintain system dictionaries as assigned.
  • Assists in ensuring that all financial disclosures are filed in a timely manner.
  • Assists in preparation of external financial audits.
  • Acts as a liaison to other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
