Overview

Halifax Health is seeking an Accountant I for the Accounting Department.

Summary

Maintains an accurate and timely accounting of functions as necessary within specific areas of the accounting department.  These areas of concentration are accounts payable office activity, general accounting, accounts receivable, and payroll.    Must be able to work independently and make firm decisions when necessary.  Performs various accounting analyses as directed by supervisor.

 

 

Job Qualifications

  • A.S. or A.A. degree in Accounting required with three to five years of relevant experience.   

  • Experience in excess of ten years will be considered in lieu of formal degree.

  • Ability to communicate professionally both written and verbally.  Ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to make decisions as needed using sound judgment, advising supervisor of such decisions. 

  • Ability to handle and assume responsibility for a large volume of diversified work.   

  • Must be able to work well with others. 

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • General office duties to include scanning and filing documents.

  • Responsible for monthly journal entries as assigned.

  • Responsible for data entry into various applications.

  • Able to create, edit, and maintain spreadsheets.

  • Responds efficiently to internal communications both orally and through e-mail.

  • Responsible for monthly account reconciliations to the general ledger.

  • Analyze variances and report discrepancies to supervisor.

  • Creates and updates policies and procedures related to job duties as necessary.

  • Assists staff in Accounting as needed to accomplish department’s goals and objectives.

  • All other duties as assigned.
